2018-2019 Reading Series at Community Bookstore

Jai Chakrabarti’s short fiction has been anthologized in The O. Henry Prize Stories, The Best American Short Stories, and has been awarded a Pushcart Prize. Jai was an Emerging Writer’s Fellow with A Public Space in 2015 and received an MFA from Brooklyn College. He lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with his wife, poet Elana Bell, and their three year old son, Surya.
Charlene Allen, JD, received her MFA from the New School in 2018, concentrating in writing for children and young adults. Her work has been published by Bedazzled Ink and the Sage Press, as well as on-line at The Brooklyn Rail and The National Book Critics Circle. She was named a Top Ten Finalist in the Tennessee Williams Literary Fiction Contest judged by Michael Cunningham. Charlene holds a J.D. from Northeastern University Law School. She is an activist for criminal justice reform, who advances a healing agenda for young people of color and all victims of violence. Charlene lives in Brooklyn.
Carl Erik Fisheris an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University, where he studies the ethical, legal, and social implications of psychiatry and neuroscience. He also has a private practice in addiction medicine in New York City. His writing for the public has appeared in Nautilus, Slate, Scientific American MIND, and WIRED UK. He is a member of NeuWrite, Columbia University’s science writing collective, and he has attended the Kavli Scientist-Writer Workshop.
